Sant’Orso Fair in the Aosta old town centre

The Sant’Orso Fair (Foire de Saint-Ours in French), in Aosta Valley, represents an event you can’t miss if you want to discover the richness of the alpine traditional handicraft. It takes place every year on the 30th and 31st January, along the narrow streets of the Aosta old town centre.
Last year the fair has been visited by 200.000 people searching the most beautiful objects of the Aosta Valley handicraft.
Craftsmen show all their different traditional activities: wood carving, stone, wrought iron and leather work, “drap” weaving, that is woolen fabric weaved using old wooden looms, laces, wicker, home furnishings, wooden ladders, barrels…
During the Sant’Orso Fair a joyful and festive atmosphere is breathed everywhere in the Aosta old town centre, in particular in the night of the 30th January, when the so-called “Veillà” takes place: the streets are full of lights and people, the private cellars are opened to offer a glass of good wine, songs and dances continue up to the sunrise.
The fair represents the perfect occasion to spend two days in contact with the deepest mountain traditions, offering music, folklore and also typical products like cheeses, bread, wines, cakes, chocolate, to taste and buy.
